The struggle for self-determination has always been a long and arduous journey, often marked by sacrifices and suffering. For the people of Ambazonia, their quest for independence has led many of their leaders and activists into exile, prison, or even worse. One such leader is Mr. Bernard, the president of Ambazonia, who has been in detention in Cyprus since October 2024 with no clear sign of release.
Recently, a group of Ambazonian members managed to visit Mr. Bernard in the detention camp in Cyprus. This visit was not only an opportunity to check on his well-being but also to show solidarity and remind him that the struggle continues outside the walls of his confinement.

The Journey to the Detention Camp
The delegation of Ambazonian members had to go through a rigorous process to gain access to the detention camp. Security measures were tight, and it was evident that the authorities were monitoring every movement. Despite the difficulties, the delegation remained resolute and determined to see their leader, hoping to lift his spirits and reassure him that his sacrifice had not been in vain.
Emotional Reunion with Their Leader
Upon seeing Mr. Bernard, emotions ran high. The leader, who had been in detention for over six months, appeared physically exhausted but mentally strong. He greeted his visitors with a firm handshake and a reassuring smile, a testament to his unwavering resilience. His Wife and kids pray each day for this release. The members expressed their deep concern about his condition and conveyed messages of encouragement from Ambazonians worldwide.
During the conversation, Mr. Bernard spoke about the hardships he had faced in detention. He highlighted the mental and emotional toll but reaffirmed his commitment to the struggle. He encouraged his people to remain steadfast and not to lose hope, despite the numerous challenges they face.
No Signs of Release
One of the most pressing concerns for the Ambazonian members was the possibility of Mr. Bernard’s release. Unfortunately, there had been no concrete indications from the authorities that he would be freed anytime soon. The Cyprus government has remained silent on the matter, and legal efforts to secure his release have so far yielded no positive results. This has raised serious concerns among his supporters, who fear that his prolonged detention could have dire consequences for both his health and the movement.
A Call for International Intervention
The visit underscored the urgent need for international organizations and human rights bodies to intervene. The members made a passionate appeal to the global community to take notice of the plight of Mr. Bernard and other political prisoners. They called on organizations such as Amnesty International, the United Nations, and the African Union to step in and pressure the authorities for his immediate and unconditional release.
The Struggle Continues
Despite the difficult circumstances, the visit strengthened the resolve of the Ambazonian members. They left the detention camp with a renewed sense of purpose, vowing to intensify their efforts to secure the freedom of their leader and continue the fight for Ambazonia’s independence.
The situation remains uncertain, but one thing is clear—Mr. Bernard’s detention has not dampened the spirit of his people. If anything, it has further fueled their determination to achieve their long-cherished goal of self-determination. The world must now watch and act before it is too late.
